Introduction

I've returned from another annual Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles with information on the latest games. As usual, I've focused on the sorts of games that I think most of our readers would be interested in -- primarily, PC adventures and role-playing games.

DreamCatcher was showing its traditional adventure games and some action/adventure games as well. DreamCatcher definitely hasn't abandoned the pure adventure, though, as both of its major new adventures look extremely promising. Also take a look at two upcoming games from European developer Arxel Tribe. No North American publishers have been announced yet, but I expect they will be announced in the near future.

If you're into role-playing games, Black Isle has some interesting titles in development, including a surprisingly appealing PS2 Baldur's Gate game. Near-final versions of Arcanum and the new Alone in the Dark round out this year's E3 coverage of PC games.

And what 2001 E3 coverage would be complete without at least some mention of console games? I can't say that I have all that many details to offer on the games themselves, but I do offer some opinions about the seemingly growing trend of PC adventures appearing on console systems.

While I know I've covered nowhere near the number of games that some of the larger gaming sites have, I hope this coverage tells you just what you want to know about the games you're likely to be playing in the near future.
