The Adventure Company, Part 2

Some other games worth noting include a few other Adventure Company titles, Jack the Ripper, Crystal Key II: The Far Realm, and Forever Worlds.

The first two games appear to be closer to the traditional sort of "panning" first-person games that TAC is more known for, although with apparent graphical improvements. Jack the Ripper is a mystery set a few years after London's original murders. You play a reporter named Jimmy Palmer, who is investigating another series of murders in New York, and as you report on these murders, you start to hear from someone who might be the original Jack the Ripper. The game is scheduled for release this winter.

Also due out this winter is Crystal Key II. The plot does seem almost a bit too stereotypical -- stranding players alone on a "world of stolen souls" and sending them off to solve the mystery of their world. Crystal Key II will also include aliens, a kidnapping, and eventually an ending of "epic proportions." Adventures can always be hard to judge from brief E3 demos, but if the graphics are any indication, the game does seem to be shaping up nicely.

Forever Worlds is also due out this winter. They showed part of the game, but I honestly didn't get much of a sense of it. It just seemed a bit "odd," for lack of a better term, and it was hard to tell whether this was a good "odd" or a bad "odd."

For the record, though, here are some screen shots and TAC's official description: "Forever Worlds is a 1st person 'pure' adventure game that transports the player into a series of surreal and immersive worlds. As an archaeological detective, gamers embark on an amazing journey through a chain of non-parallel dimensions, where magic and fantasies merge. Intuitive interfaces and navigation combine with fully integrated puzzles for a great adventure."

Finally, The Adventure Company has announced Atlantis Evolution, developed by DreamCatcher's European division, but the game was not yet on display at this year's E3. According to TAC's press release, this title set in 1904 sends an adventure back in time to the lost city of Atlantis, a "land of hi-tech and archaic faith," where he "endures [a] thrilling adventure helping the people of Atlantis overthrow the mighty 'Atlantian' Gods." These screenshots may tide you over until the Spring 2004 release date.
