File Menu

Open My Hints:

This displays a list of hint files you have downloaded using the "Download New Hints" option.  To view any of the hints, just double-click on the title of the game.  You may also delete files you no longer need using the "Delete" button on the toolbar, or if you want to see files available for download along with the hints you already have, click on either the "New Only" or "All" buttons next to "Show Hints to Download" on the toolbar.

Open Hints Manually:

Opens a hint file, using the standard Windows dialog box for opening files.

Download New Hints:

You can use this program to download new UHS hint files.  See the Downloading Hints with the UHS Reader section of this help file for more information.

You may notice that "Open My Hints" and "Download New Hints" work very similarly.  The only real difference between the commands is what they do the first time you click on them.  "Open My Hints" will show you hints you *have* already downloaded, while "Download New Hints" shows you hints you have *not* downloaded.  However, the download toolbar lets you add files of either type to either window, in case you want to see both new and old files listed together.

Print File:

Prints the entire hint file (or just the pages you select) to your printer.  If you have not yet purchased this program (see Ordering Your Reader), only the hints available to you during your trial period will be printed.

Printer Setup:

Allows you to select the default printer for any of the printing options and to make changes to your printer's properties.

Information:

Provides information about who wrote the hints you're reading.  If you have questions about a file, check this section to find out how to contact the author.  (Please e-mail the author of the relevant hints first if you have questions about a particular game.)  Additional technical information, such as the time and date of the file's creation or copyright and trademark information may also be listed here.

Find in File:

Use this option to get a list of every section in the file where a particular phrase appears.  (Case does not matter in the search phrase – "uhs" and "UHS" are treated the same.)  This option may help you to quickly locate the hints you need if you can't find them with the normal menus.

Decode to Text:

Converts a UHS file into plain text for later printing or viewing.  Most files contain copyright restrictions that prohibit the distribution of any decoded UHS file, and unless the author gives you permission to distribute a decoded file, you should assume that you may *not* distribute a decoded or otherwise modified UHS file.  If you have not yet purchased this program (see Ordering Your Reader), only the hints available to you during your trial period will be printed.

Copy to Palm:

Copies the UHS file that you are currently viewing to your Palm OS handheld.  See How to Read UHS Hints on a Palm OS Handheld for more details on how this process works.

Recently Used Files:

The four most recently opened hint files will appear after the "Decode to Text" option.  Select any of the files listed here to open them.

Our on-line hints load much more quickly if you have scripting enabled in your web browser. Please see our help page for more information.
