What am I supposed to do with the two machines inside the tunnel?
1 of 23: There are two machines located inside the tunnel. They are opposite each other, and are identical in appearance.
2 of 23: The machines are going to be used to send gas to an airship located elsewhere. Your job is to get just the right amount of gas to the airship to mobilize it.
3 of 23: Experiment with either of the machines. (They work identically.)
4 of 23: Look around you -- not only at the machine against the wall.
5 of 23: Notice the button in the middle, and the arrow located on that button.
6 of 23: What happens when you press that button?
7 of 23: Have you activated any of the 10 levers before pressing the button?
8 of 23: Notice what happens on the adjacent meter.
9 of 23: The meter is reading the amount of gas about to be dispensed to the airship.
10 of 23: The meter consists of two rings that, together, display the amount of gas about to be dispensed.
11 of 23: Note that the outer ring measures units of twelve (not ten).
12 of 23: You should have encountered an apparition of Dr. Bremmer, somewhere in the vicinity of the machines, who will give you a clue as to what you need to do. The image appears randomly, so it's not always possible to see the image right away.
13 of 23: Dr. Bremmer said "One gas ... two times stronger than the others..."
14 of 23: You'll need to determine which lever corresponds to the stronger gas.
15 of 23: After you read the meter, you only get one chance to press the right lever; the machine resets to a new value each time you leave the puzzle and reapproach it!
16 of 23: How can you determine, with only one reading, which of the ten levers releases the stronger gas?
17 of 23: Think of a way that you can uniquely identify each of the 10 levers.
18 of 23: Dispensing a different amount of gas from each should help.
19 of 23: After approaching the machine, start with any one of the levers, and click it once. Then click the next lever (clockwise is best) twice. Move to the third lever, and click it three times, and so on.
20 of 23: When you have done this with all ten levers, click the center button to read the meter. What will it tell you? (Warning -- the next hint contains the full solution on determining the correct gas.)
21 of 23: Since you made a total of 55 pushes (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10), and only one of the paddles dispenses a double dose of gas, the difference between what the meter reads, and 55, will tell you which lever dispenses the double dose of gas.
22 of 23: Turn back to the gas collector, and press the correct lever once. You should see a cut scene of the airship beginning to rise.
23 of 23: You will now need to release the other half of the gas needed for the airship by performing the same steps on the second gas collector (directly behind you).
