UHS Reader Changes (versions 4.00 and higher)

Here are the changes that have been made to UHSWIN since version 4.00.  UHSWIN 4.00 through 4.20 were available for both 32-bit versions of Windows (95/98/ME/NT 4/2000/XP) and Windows 3.1.  UHSWIN 4.30 and higher are available for 32-bit versions of Windows only.

4.60:
* UHSWIN now supports Windows XP's visual themes, so it runs in XP using XP's updated look.  (Prior versions also worked in XP, but with a "classic" interface.)
* Scroll wheels on most mice now work under Win 2000/XP.
* The ordering instructions have been updated to reflect new payment options.
* An error causing the program to stall when downloading hints to a deleted folder has been fixed.

4.50:
* You can now download hint files directly from the UHS Reader, so you can find new hint files more easily.
* The full credits for most hint files can now be viewed as a link from the file's main window.
* "Verbose File Listing" has been renamed to "Open Hints by Title" and includes a button to change folders at the bottom of the window (instead of in a separate menu option).
* You can customize more elements of the environment, such as window and text colors and fonts.
* Graphics will stretch to fit their windows when resized.
* Progress dialog boxes are displayed during long operations to give you an opportunity to cancel.
* You can now use the keyboard to navigate links within graphics.
* The toolbar icons have been improved.
* The links displayed with the "Find in File" command now work correctly with older (UHS 88a) hint files.
* Documents will be reformatted before printing if you change the printer settings in the page selection dialog box.
* A bug causing text to occasionally disappear on some high-resolution printers has been fixed.

4.30:
* Printouts of windows and hint files use an improved format, which allows text and graphics to be displayed on the same page, preserves formatting of tables, and adds headers and footers to every page.  You can now also select ranges of pages, instead of printing an entire file at once.
* The "Hint Memory" feature now works correctly, so that hints pick up where you left off, even when you close and restart the program, instead of just until you close the program.
* You can now set a default directory for the "Verbose File Listing" command, so that you don't have to select a directory every time you use that command.
* The reader now recognizes when you have opened a compressed ZIP file instead of an uncompressed UHS hint file and gives instructions on how to uncompress the ZIP file.
* Links to the official UHS website (http://www.uhs-hints.com/) are included on the main menu of the program and in the order dialog boxes.
* The look of the program was improved by adding 3D effects to many windows and by using several new icons.
* Long text windows now display more quickly.
* Several minor errors (including occasional errors when using the "Find" command multiple times and occasional misformatting of some hint files) were corrected.

4.20:
* Adds keyboard controls for selecting items and navigating windows.
* Adds a "copy to clipboard" option to place both text and graphics from a single window onto the Windows clipboard.
* Combines the ordering instructions into a single set of dialog boxes and makes a number of minor related changes to these instructions.
* Any windows containing search results are automatically closed when a new file is opened, to prevent the program from crashing if these results are later selected.

4.10:
* Adds "Hint Memory" – hints pick up where you left off if you close then reopen a hint window.
* Adds a find command to search entire hint files for specified text.
* Hotkeys and a toolbar have been added for faster access to commonly used features.
* The size of images on certain color printers has been corrected.
* The output of the "Decode to Text" feature has been updated – the output from complex hint files is now easier to read.
* Printouts of the contents of a single window now include the window title at their top.
* The general protection fault that appeared when viewing certain images under 16-bit Windows has been eliminated.
* Registration dialog boxes have been updated slightly to clarify several common questions and prevent common errors.
* The warning that appeared when attempting to view GIF images has been updated to include the URL of the UHS web page.
* The program has been better streamlined to be faster and smaller.

4.00:
* Adds support for the UHS 96a format – which allows images to reveal themselves in hint-like stages and includes support for embedding sounds within hint files.
* A separate Windows 95 reader was released, in addition to the existing 16-bit (Windows 3.1) version.
* Hint files and windows containing graphics can be printed directly from the UHS Reader.
* The interface has been redesigned to make UHSWIN behave more like other hypertext programs, such as Windows Help or web browsers.
* Text now wraps correctly within individual windows.
* The help file has been integrated into the UHS Reader.
* Additional registration methods have been added, and users can now fill out the registration form from directly within the reader.
* Unregistered users can now decode the available portions of hint files to text.
