The 11th Hour Hints

Solution

  • 1 of 10: As far as I could tell, there was virtually no logic to solving this puzzle. You should just keep in mind that some moves are dead ends -- you need to have pieces that will fit into whatever openings you create.
  • 2 of 10: If you can, I'd also recommend playing this puzzle out by hand once.  Even if you don't remember all the moves, it's a lot easier to slide around slips of paper or something like that than it is to have to put up with the time that all the animation takes.  If you can just remember a basic strategy, you're probably better off than sticking with pure trial and error on the computer.
  • 3 of 10: About the only hint that I can give is that you will end up with the couches all on the left side of the puzzle when you're finished (or at least I did). Since the path to getting the piano out isn't all that obvious, you might have better luck trying to solve the puzzle with this secondary goal in mind.
  • 4 of 10: A full solution follows.
  • 5 of 10: I'll label the board in columns and rows.  The columns are given letters A-E and the rows numbers 1-4, as in:

    A1  B1  C1  D1  E1 A2  B2  C2  D2  E2 A3  B3  C3  D3  E3 A4  B4  C4  D4  E4

I'll refer to each piece by its top-left corner.  So I'd say the piano is at A2 at the start of the puzzle.

    Now, here are the moves: D2 R (move D2 right), C2 RD (move C2 right then down), C1 DR, D1 L (move D1 left), E2 U (up), D3 R, D2 D, C1 R, A1 RR, A2 U.
  • 6 of 10: C3 LL, D3 LL, E3 LL, D4 U, C4 RR, A4 RR, A3 D, B3 D, A1 D, C1 LL.
  • 7 of 10: C2 U, C3 UR, A2 R, A4 UU, B4 LU, C4 LL, E4 LL, D3 D, D2 DR, B2 R.
  • 8 of 10: A2 RD, A1 D, C1 LL, C2 U, C4 U, D4 L, E3 D, C3 RR, C1 D, A1 RR.
  • 9 of 10: B1 U, A3 U, B3 U, A4 U, C4 LL, C2 D, B2 RR, A2 RR, A1 D, C1 DDL.
  • 10 of 10: D2 UL, E1 L, E3 UU, E4 UU, D3 R, C2 DD, C1 DD, D1 L, E2 LU, E3 UR.
