Why are some of the passages blocked off with red X's?
1 of 3: They're blocked by some sort of forcefield.
2 of 3: You need to find a way to disable those forcefields.
3 of 3: Explore the parts of the ship where you can go, and you should eventually run across the forcefield's power supply -- a large stationary target that's the same color as the forcefield. Keep shooting it until its "health" meter at the bottom of the screen runs down to zero. You will then be able to go through the previously blocked doors.
