Anachronox Hints

What should I do at the Echo Gate?

  • 1 of 15: In the cut-scene that comes after you've killed Detta, you'll learn that there's more to the story than you first believed.
  • 2 of 15: Grumpos turns out to be a traitor.
  • 3 of 15: And you have to fight some sort of Dark Servant on a platform.  (For now, you only control three characters, but the rest come in the battle later.)
  • 4 of 15: Actually, the only targets you can hit are the spheres around the Dark Servant, not that creature itself.
  • 5 of 15: Also notice that the platform looks a lot like something else.
  • 6 of 15: Like one of the MysTech Elementors.
  • 7 of 15: Characters can do the most damage when they use a MysTech of a particular "color" effect.
  • 8 of 15: That means you need to move your characters into the spots where the spheres are initially found.
  • 9 of 15: It just so happens that each character is standing in front of the sphere of the same color as his/her/its greatest affinity.
  • 10 of 15: Just attack the spheres and when one is destroyed, have the nearest character step forward into the newly-formed hole.  That character will now be out of the battle, but if you have any other characters waiting, that one will now join in.
  • 11 of 15: You'll win when all of your (remaining) party members are standing in the place of the spheres.
  • 12 of 15: All of your favorite attacks work against the spheres, although I found that Sly's Aerial Blast worked really well against all the spheres, if you build up your Bouge long enough to use it.
  • 13 of 15: But be careful -- if you wait too long, the Dark Servant will summon a new sphere to fill the hole.
  • 14 of 15: It helps to time your attacks, so you can fill in the hole before that happens.
  • 15 of 15: Generally, this means you should have the other two party members in the battle attack the sphere you want to destroy.  The character in front of that sphere should do as little as possible, so when the sphere is destroyed, you can move that character into the hole right away.  (Remember that you don't have to do anything with a character just because their timing circle is green.)
