Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura Hints

What can I do in P. Schuyler and Sons?

  • 1 of 17: The location of P. Schuyler and Sons can be found by asking just about any guard in the city.
  • 2 of 17: Outside of the building, you'll meet Magnus, a dwarf, who will join you if you have enough space in your party and will give you some clues as to the goings on in P. Shuyler and Sons.
  • 3 of 17: Either way, go into the building, and meet James Kingsford.
  • 4 of 17: He won't be terribly forthcoming, so you'll have to find a way to get something out of him.
  • 5 of 17: If you have a little Persuasion, you can threaten him, saying you have some kind of search order, and if you persist, he'll give you the key, and leave.
  • 6 of 17: If you don't feel like doing that, you can always steal the key or just kill him for it. The guards won't come if you do.
  • 7 of 17: Once you have the key, go through the locked door to the left of where Kingsford was, and go down the trapdoor in the corner.
  • 8 of 17: You'll find yourself in a large room with lots of zombies and a few weak traps. Kill any zombies you run into, and go to the trap door at the bottom of the room.
  • 9 of 17: You'll get to another, slightly larger, but still totally straightforward dungeon level.
  • 10 of 17: Go through it, killing zombies, and you'll eventually find another trap door, which you should go down.
  • 11 of 17: Down on the next level, you won't meet any more zombies.
  • 12 of 17: You'll actually run into some dead animated dwarves. Go up through the room, and you'll eventually meet the Schuylers.
  • 13 of 17: They'll tell you that they're a family of Necromancers, and that they're using the dwarves for labor.
  • 14 of 17: If you have Magnus with you, attack them, ir if you don't, you can attack them anyways, but you can also talk your way into getting the information you need.
  • 15 of 17: If you kill them (probably the better option, since they're really not powerful at all), take the key from the one in the grey robe, and use it to open the file cabinet.
  • 16 of 17: You'll learn either from the note in there, or from Pellonius Schuyler's spirit, depending on whether you killed them or not, that the ring was ordered by a man named Benjamin Bates, for his son Gilbert.
  • 17 of 17: Gilbert Bates is the man who "invented" the steam engine, and he lives in the giant mansion on the north side of the city.
