Armed & Delirious Hints

A Guide for the (very) Perplexed

  • The following contains some very personal and hence obviously subjective opinions.

"Armed & Delirious (Dementia)" contains some of the most original and creative multimedia experiences of any Quest/Adventure game I have ever played (and I have played a ~very~ large number).  It also contains some of the most vivid graphics, techniques and music (for winter 1997).  Unfortunately, it also contains many extremely serious flaws.

Amongst these faults, is the fact that there is an extremely large number of locations the player can visit in a virtually infinite order ... and some of them have to be visited more than once.  There is also very little guidance as to which of these orders can or should be taken, and what hints are given in the game are often totally zany (and unclear).

Some players might wish to experience all the mad adventures of Granny but have not got the time, stamina, or patience to stumble around without a fairly tight schedule.  These hints have been written bearing in mind the most efficient route to follow.  But UHS-Files are not Cheat-Sheets, and do not attempt to tell players exactly where to go next (even when there is an infinity of choices!).

Just as they stand, the following hints may be entirely sufficient for many gamers who wish to "do their own thing" completely.

However, there are probably some players who cannot devote ~too~ much time and energy to going repeatedly to locations and finding that they cannot continue since they "should" have gone to one (or often more than one) place previously ... an added burden being the considerable amount of disk swapping involved.

For such players, an addendum has been appended at the end called "Optimum Navigation".  This is not a walkthru -- it simply lists the recommended ORDER you should visit the very many locations after leaving Granny's Villa, with no mention made as to what you should do at any of these places.  In order to reduce frustration, the CD number of each location has been included in this addendum.

If you can play the game right through without consulting this addendum, you will probably obtain more personal satisfaction.  If, however, you have a time limitation and/or become too frustrated, and do not want to stop the game in the middle without completing it, it has been added for your possible assistance.

Throughout the game you have to find a few dozen items and perform even more tasks.  In order to complete it successfully you are obliged to accomplish ~almost~ all of these actions.  There are only a couple which are not ~absolutely essential~; however, no differentiation has been made between these and the others.
