Arx Fatalis Hints

I'm not worried about getting caught. Is there an easy way to do it?

  • 1 of 9: You have two options: either kill Gary and take the key from his body, which is almost certain to get you into trouble with the city guards; or try to steal the key.
  • 2 of 9: The best place to confront Gary is at his home. You can find Gary's house by ascending the stairs north of the bank. His is the door on the left-hand side before the top of the stairs. Unfortunately, Gary doesn't go home very often. You'll usually find him there immediately after the council meeting in the castle.
  • 3 of 9: Once you've got Gary cornered, you can try to pick his pockets (this requires a Stealth skill of at least 50). The item you want is a gold key.
  • 4 of 9: If you can't pickpocket Gary, or if he catches you in the act, you can always attack him -- he's not that tough to kill. Be warned that killing him probably will alert the guards, however, causing them to attack you on sight.
  • 5 of 9: Once you've got the key, you need to figure out how to get inside the bank vault.
  • 6 of 9: By casting Reveal in the bank, you should see a secret door on the left-hand wall. If you're lucky, you might be able to open this door simply by clicking on it; the bank guard sometimes goes in there and then forgets to lock it behind him. Otherwise, you can try loitering outside until the guard enters the vault, or you can open the vault yourself.
  • 7 of 9: The button which opens the vault is inside the bank office, which can be reached through the building next door.
  • 8 of 9: If you've killed Gary, you can unlock the door to the office using his key. Otherwise, you can try to pickpocket the key from him, or pick the lock on the door.
  • 9 of 9: Inside the office, look for a secret button above the desk. Pushing this button opens the vault passage in the bank. Enter the passage, then use the bank key to open the vault.
