Arx Fatalis Hints

How can I convince the Goblin Lord to open the gate downstairs?

  • 1 of 13: The goblin is quite clear about what he requires of you before he will open the gate: a written authorization from his boss, and a gem dealer's license. You'll need to track down a copy of each of these documents.
  • 2 of 13: You'll find the gem dealer's license upstairs.
  • 3 of 13: Take the stairs up and speak with Ortiern in the Guard's Fortress. He will provide you with a gem dealer's license.
  • 4 of 13: For the authorization paper, you'll need to find the goblin's boss.
  • 5 of 13: Try not to wake him up.
  • 6 of 13: The goblin boss can be found dozing in his office, near the stairs leading up.
  • 7 of 13: Search the office for the authorization paper you need. It's on a shelf against the wall. Before you give the authorization to the guard, read it.
  • 8 of 13: You'll notice that while the form is valid, it has not been signed.
  • 9 of 13: There's little chance of convincing the goblin boss to sign the paper for you. Perhaps you could convince someone else to forge his signature.
  • 10 of 13: Is there anyone who owes you a favor?
  • 11 of 13: If you've already freed the goblin Polsius, go track him down and see if he's willing to repay your kindness. If you haven't, go to his cell and release him.
  • 12 of 13: Polsius is waiting for you in the tavern upstairs. Convince him to sign the document for you, then return to the guard and present both documents. He will then open the gate.
  • 13 of 13: If you'd prefer to leave Polsius to rot in his cell (or have accidentally killed him), you can bribe the goblin guard to open the gate. (To do this, double click your bag of gold, then "use" it on the guard). Bribing the guard requires 300 gold pieces.
