Arx Fatalis Hints
How do I open the gate near the room with the crystal ball?
1 of 8: As you've probably guessed, opening this gate requires you to pull the six levers in the next room in the proper sequence.
2 of 8: Take a look into the scrying sphere at the top of the stairs.
3 of 8: Looking into the sphere will show you the interior of a room, empty save for a single lever. The key to this puzzle is to pull the levers in the order they are displayed in the sphere.
4 of 8: Since all of the rooms here are identical, you will probably have a hard time figuring out which lever to pull first. You'll need to figure out a way to tell the rooms apart.
5 of 8: The rooms are empty. But you could change that...
6 of 8: Place a different item beneath the lever in each room, then take another look into the scrying sphere. You should now be able to tell which room you are observing.
7 of 8: Pull the lever in the room displayed in the sphere. When you look into the sphere again, a different room will appear. Continue pulling the levers in the rooms shown in the sphere until the gate opens. When this is done, take the golden snake idol from behind the staircase.
8 of 8: The correct order in which to pull the levers is as follows (with "X" representing the entrance to the room, and "O" the scrying sphere):
3 1 5 x / - / - / - / - O -- snake idol appears here 6 4 2
