Arx Fatalis Hints
Why won't the King speak with me?
of 8: The goblins inside the city have told you that King Alotar is upset, locking himself inside his throne room and refusing to see any visitors. You'll have to be clever in order to gain an audience with him.
of 8: Loiter around the door to the throne room for a while, and you'll notice some strange comings and goings.
of 8: You'll see a goblin cook approach the door and slide some pies underneath the door. Try asking the cook what he's up to.
of 8: King Alotar has demanded a constant supply of pies to his room. If you have an apple pie in your inventory, you can slide it under the door yourself. This in itself will not get you inside, however.
of 8: You'll find a clue in the king's bedroom, just down the hall from the throne room.
of 8: Open the chest next to the king's bed and you'll find a note from his apothecary forbidding him from drinking wine. Apparently, it disagrees with his stomach.
of 8: Add some wine to the cookie dough in the kitchen. The cook will use this to bake some fresh pies, then deposit them at the king's door. Follow the king after he emerges from the throne room. You can speak with him after he reaches his bedroom.
of 8: Alternatively, you can bake a tainted pie yourself. Use a rolling pin on some bread dough to form an unbaked pie. Add an apple, then some wine, and bake the pie in the fire.
