Arx Fatalis Hints
Where can I find some gold?
of 8: Often during your adventures, you'll find yourself running a little short on cash. The most straightforward means of earning some extra gold are to complete quests for wealthy NPCs and to sell any items for which you have no use. The remainder of these hints offer more tips for filling your pockets, but be warned that they may contain spoilers.
of 8: Try earning your money by becoming an entrepreneur. There are several career options in Arx. You can become a baker, baking and selling pies (apple pies will fetch a better price than ordinary ones). Or grab a fishing pole and provide the citizens of Arx with much-needed brain food. With sufficient Object Knowledge, you can even become a blacksmith, repairing damaged items you find to increase their market value before selling them.
of 8: Working for a living can become tedious. Ever considered a career in larceny? There are many chests and doors in Arx which can only be opened with sufficient Technical Skill. Use this skill to rob the homes and shops in the City of Arx (preferably when the occupants are not around).
of 8: If you've not yet completed the troll quest to recover the idol, you can take advantage of the effect of the troll's strike on the local economy. You'll find goblin mine shares for sale at the bank in the City of Arx. Purchase a few of these, then complete the quest to end the strike. You can sell the shares back to the bank for a considerable profit.
of 8: Grab a pickaxe and set about mining the caves yourself. You'll find gems on Level 2 in the crystal caves and in the troll mines on Level 3. The dwarf mines on Level 8 and the caves on Level 5 are a good source for gold. The gems are useless to you, but can be sold for a hefty profit at the jewelry shop or bank in the City of Arx, as well as the throne room in the Goblin City.
of 8: Admit it: you don't like goblins, and you don't trust them. But you can make some money at their expense. Collect all of the gems you can, then sell them to King Alotar in the Goblin City. After the sales are final, kill the king, remove your gems from his chest, and sell them again to the jeweler in the City of Arx. Note that you can kill any of the shopkeepers to steal their wares, but doing so may cause the entire population to regard you as hostile (and where will you sell the ill-gotten goods after you've killed all of the merchants?)
of 8: If you kill both the Water and Earth goblin clans on Level 5, then the next time you enter the level you'll discover the twin dealers have been slain. You'll find the items from their shop inside a chest in the portal room on this level.
of 8: If you find yourself really hard up for cash, you can try robbing the bank in the City of Arx.
