How can I get into the trophy room's secret side room?

1 of 13:
First, you must deal with the problem in the stable.
- What should I do when I hear a scream from the stable?
2 of 13: Then return to the trophy room and look around for interactive items.
3 of 13: Check out the huge and fancy fresco painting on one wall.
4 of 13: Move up to the large lizard image on the fresco and click on the hotspot on its eye.
5 of 13: Holmes will say that there's something behind the fresco, and the eye is part of some mechanism.
6 of 13:
To get a clue as to what to do with the eye, figure out what the nearby hole-in-a-table gimmick is all about.
- What needs to go in the table's hole?
7 of 13: The table's clue is hinting at you to act like a gunman who's gunning for that lizard.
8 of 13: If you were such a gunman, you wouldn't get too close to the lizard, but would try to take straight aim at it from a ways back.
9 of 13: Stand right in front of the lizard, then slowly move straight backward.
10 of 13: You should soon step on a pressure plate on the floor and get a comment from Holmes. If not, look around on the floor for the plate. (You can see it outlined in black. It's near one of the bearskin rugs.)

Since you have nothing to shoot the lizard's eye with, you'll have to jam something into it. But you can't do that from on the pressure plate, so you'll first have to weight it down with something.
- What would be heavy enough to work for this?
12 of 13:
Now something needs to be inserted into the lizard's eye in order to trigger the secret door mechanism.
- What item do I need to use with the lizard's eye?
13 of 13: Use the metal rod with the lizard's eye to insert it, and the secret room will be open to you.
