2 of 6: Look down on the ground next to the wall to find more footprints.
3 of 6: You can't click on them for a close-up, so just follow them along.
4 of 6: They'll end at a gate that Holmes doesn't think he has any reason to go past.
5 of 6: Look on the ground just to the right of the gate.
6 of 6: A ladder is lying there, so click on it to pick it up.
