1 of 5: That's because you're supposed to go to the top of the staircase, see the sheriff and his shotgun goon at the bottom, and then make a "daring" escape.
2 of 5: If the sheriff isn't near the stairs, you'll need to pick up something else.
3 of 5: Go check the gun cabinet you got the money from.
4 of 5: Notice that one of the elephant guns is interactive.
5 of 5: Click on it to take it, then go to the top of the stairs to encounter the sheriff.
