On Classes and NPCs
There are a lot of classes for your character to choose from. I have found that the best class for your main character to be is a fighter, because they tend to be the hardest to kill. Your party should best consist of two more fighters, a druid/cleric, a thief, and a mage. Have three fighters total for good numbers for your basic fighting, a mage for casting spells, a thief for the necessary lockpick and detect traps abilities, and a druid/cleric for healing abilities.
