Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn Hints

Character Creation

  • 1 of 5: For starters, it matters very little what your sex is -- it is only used to determine who comes on to you during the game.
  • 2 of 5: For class, I recommend a fighter type if you are a beginner to this type of game, as they're pretty simple to get used to.
  • 3 of 5: For more experienced players, try some of the new character kits included, like Archer (ranger-type), Kensai (warrior-type), or Skald (bard-type)
  • 4 of 5: Make sure that your main prime requisite score (i.e., strength for fighters, intelligence for mages) is at least 18.  All your other stats should be 12 or above.  You have unlimited rerolls on your stats, so go for these minimums.
  • 5 of 5: If you're very good, try multiclassed characters.  They are harder to start out with, but they become extremely powerful and the classes can really complement each other -- for example, the mage class protections and bonus spells plus the fighter's ability to distribute general physical discomfort. At higher levels they can become capable of running the game solo.
