    Overall: I found Haer'Dalis to be a pretty useful character.  I don't particularly like the kit he uses, however, since it deprives him of one of the bard's most useful abilities (Lore).  He's a very good fighter, though, and he comes with two cool +2 longswords, which only he can use.  The blade abilities are nice, but there are better fighters out there.  He's a decent choice, but not the best.  He does have an amusing little fling with Nalia, though, if they're both in your party.
