The Imprisoned Mage

  • 1 of 14: If you talk to the last druergar in the camp, he'll tell you about an imprisoned mage nearby.
  • 2 of 14: Buy the freedom scroll from the shopkeeper druergar and just cast it from the scroll.
  • 3 of 14: Now go north to find the mage, Vithal.
  • 4 of 14: It turns out he was looking for treasure, but he also needs a certain book.
  • 5 of 14: The book is on the innkeeper in the Svirfneblin town, to the northwest.  Buy if off the innkeeper for 300 gold.
  • 6 of 14: Vithal will be just northeast of the druergar camp.  Give him the book, and agree to help him out.
  • 7 of 14: A greater earth elemental will appear.  Kill it, and definitely don't let it kill Vithal.
  • 8 of 14: He'll go into the portal, come out, and tell you to follow him.
  • 9 of 14: Follow to the next, similar portal, only this time you'll be fighting a greater fire elemental.
  • 10 of 14: Finally, go to the third portal where you'll fight a greater air elemental.
  • 11 of 14: When he comes out, you get 20,000 XP, and he'll offer you some treasure (Rod of Absorption)
  • 12 of 14: Complain, and he'll give you some spells (Simulacrum, Abi Delzim's Horrid Wilting).
  • 13 of 14: Complain further and he'll attack you.
  • 14 of 14: He'll a really tough mage, but he's worth 20,000 XP, and you get a great helmet from him, which lowers your AC by 1 and can cast Death Spell.  He also has some spell scrolls.
