Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn Hints

Fighting

  • 1 of 11: First, remember Haste is the second most important spell in the game.
  • 2 of 11: Breach is the most important spell in the game.
  • 3 of 11: Whenever you go into a big fight and have trouble, Hasting all your characters will usually turn the tide in your favor.
  • 4 of 11: Always have someone who can cast Breach -- the mages you encounter all have some really annoying magical protections, and Breach is the best way to get through them.
  • 5 of 11: Ruby Ray of Reversal, Pierce Shield, or Spellstrike also work very well at higher levels.
  • 6 of 11: Whenever fighting with vampires, be sure to have Negative Plane Protection of some kind on your main character, or else they might be level-drained to death.
  • 7 of 11: Always be sure to keep your mages out of the fighting -- they're very susceptible to attack if not protected.
  • 8 of 11: Therefore, be sure to always cast protection spells on your mages.
  • 9 of 11: Against tough creatures, cast summoning spells.  Often they will be distracted by the monsters you summon, thus allowing you badly needed time to attack them.
  • 10 of 11: Always target spellcasters first, unless they are very weak (low-level) or there are extremely dangerous fighters that present more of a threat.
  • 11 of 11: Some mages will cast spells like Improved Invisibility, making it impossible to Breach them.  Always keep True Sight memorized to deal with this threat.
