Bioshock Hints
How can I kill this big daddy?
of 12: NOTE: You really should wait until after you get the research camera in a near-future goal. That way, you can take research photos of this big daddy and his little sister before dealing with them. (The same can be true of the ones back in the Medical Pavilion if you left them alone.)
of 12: This big daddy won't charge you like the bouncer-style ones do, but will instead keep its distance and shoot at you.
of 12: That's good, because you won't have to constantly run crazily around to avoid it -- just take cover somewhere and quickly peek out long enough to shoot at it, then duck back into cover before it can shoot you. (Also, watch out for its prox grenades, which may sometimes land too close to you.)
of 12: If you don't have your Telekinesis plasmid on your active list, you might want to run back to the Gene Bank machine that's near the bathysphere and make it active for this battle. That way, you can toss the big daddy's grenades back at it. However, you'd have to catch the grenades while they were still in the air, and that's pretty hard to do. Once a grenade lands and sets, you can only get rid of it safely by shooting it.
of 12: If you wait and watch instead of attacking right away, you'll see the big daddy come under attack by some splicers, including a nitro splicer. That would be a good time to start shooting the big daddy, since it usually won't shoot back at you until the splicers who attack it are all dead.
of 12: When it does start shooting back at you, take cover behind something and start shooting it from there.
of 12: The best place to be while dodging around and shooting is underneath one of the boardwalk structures at the wharf's north or south end. The big daddy can't follow you under there, and it'll be a bit harder for it to shoot you and toss grenades at you.
of 12: When you first enter the area, you should get your Electro Bolt ready and go under the boardwalk. There's a gun turret down there, and it would help if you zapped it and then hacked it before you start shooting the big daddy.
of 12: There's also a turret under the boardwalk at the southern end of the wharf, so quickly run over there and do the zap-hack routine on it, too.
of 12: You can then immediately start firing on the big daddy, or you can wait until it and the hacked turrets finish off a bunch of the splicers in the area first. Hopefully, the big daddy will be at least a little damaged in the combats. (Even if not, that's several splicers you won't have to deal with.)
of 12: When you're ready to start attacking, save your game and then keep maneuvering around under one boardwalk or the other to keep from getting hit too often. Hopefully, you'll eventually be able to kill the big daddy and harvest or rescue the little sister.
of 12: If you find that you can't damage the big daddy fast enough, even with your shotgun, you may want to put off this fight until after you get a grenade launcher, which will be happening fairly soon.
