Combat Tips
of 6: As in most of these kinds of games, it's very important to use strafing and cover to your advantage when fighting anything that can shoot back at you. Also, the old retreat-and-fire technique is frequently handy, especially with enemies who charge you, like the thuggish splicers.
of 6: Keep your supply of first aid kits up whenever you can, since using them in the middle of combat (or right afterward) is useful in keeping yourself healthy. You can carry up to nine at a time, and you should usually have about that many in stock, especially if you wait until you find another first aid kit before you use one that you've got to heal yourself. (This isn't always possible, but it often is.)
of 6: If, like me, you hardly ever buy anything at vending machines, you'll usually have the max of $500 with you. Because of that, it may be better to pay to heal yourself at health stations most of the time instead of using first aid kits. Save them for when you have to heal quickly and there are no health stations around. (Or use first aid kits all the time and keep buying more from vending machines.)
of 6: Don't forget that splicers can heal themselves at health stations, too. Whenever you're fighting splicers (especially groups of them), try to hack or destroy any nearby health stations before combat begins. Hacking the stations is better, since the splicers will get damaged when they try to use them, and they'll still be available for you to use. Destroying the stations is a lot quicker and easier, especially later in the game when the hacking minigames become very hard, but do so only when necessary.
of 6: When you return to an area you haven't been in for awhile, watch out for new splicers. The game often puts them in areas you've previously cleared just to spice things up a bit. (And to give you more opportunities for using the Research Tips on splicers.)
of 6: Another thing to watch for when returning to old areas is lockboxes. Enemies you've killed will usually transform into lockboxes sooner or later, and they may contain some new items that weren't available on the corpses when you searched them. Look for these near hacked security devices especially, since enemies may have been killed by them when you weren't around.
