Black Mirror II Hints

How can I set the gadget for a particular rope?

  • 1 of 8: Notice that there are five rows of symbol sets. That matches up with the fact that each rope has five symbols in a vertical line next to it.
  • 2 of 8: Each row of symbols has some empty space to the left and/or right of it that you can click on to slide the symbol set left and right. Each row also has a switch in the middle that can point left or right.
  • 3 of 8: Also notice the pairs of vertical lines that are to the left and right of the column of switches.
  • 4 of 8: The symbol that counts as being currently "set" for each row is the one that's between the vertical lines on the side that the row's switch is pointing to.
  • 5 of 8: For example, if the top switch points to the left, then the top row's "set" symbol is the one that's currently between the vertical lines to the left of the switch. To change the top row's "set" symbol to be the one between the vertical lines to the right of the switch, click on the switch to get it to point to the right. If you don't want either of the symbols that are between the vertical lines, then click on the row's blank spaces to slide the symbols left or right.
  • 6 of 8: It's really not as complicated as the above description makes it sound once you understand the basic concept. Try picking one of the ropes that you can see all five symbols for and setting the gadget to have all five of those symbols "set" in the five rows. (Remember to set each row's switch according to which vertical line set you want the gadget to look in for the currently "set" symbol.)
  • 7 of 8: The main trouble with the gadget is that it resets every time you exit its close-up view to look at a rope's symbols. You'll need to carefully copy all five symbols down onto a piece of paper so you can enter them all without losing progress. (Or do a screen capture and task-switch between the game and what you have the screen capture pasted into.)
  • 8 of 8: Slide the symbol rows and set the switches, then hit the button near the bottom left of the display to see if you entered the symbol set correctly. If so, you'll get a picture in the window to the right of the button showing the trap that's attached to the rope whose symbols you entered.
