Black Mirror III Hints
How can I solve the offering dish puzzle?
of 18: Look around near it for a clue as to which items to put on the dish.
of 18: Exit the puzzle screen and examine the relief that's on the wall to the left of the big statue.
of 18: After you get a close-up view of it, examine each of its three sections.
of 18: Adrian won't get much out of it, but Valentina will be able to figure out more.
of 18: Switch control to her, then get the relief close-up and examine its three sections.
of 18: Notice that the middle section shows seven people, four of which are standing.
of 18: The offering dish requires exactly four items in it, so maybe the four standing people are the clues to which items to use.
of 18: Unfortunately, Valentina won't describe all four of the standing people. She'll say that two of the lying-down people are a king and a warrior, and that two of the standing-up people are a priest and hunter.
of 18: From that you can conclude that the offering items that symbolize kings and warriors won't be used, and that the offering items that symbolize priests and hunters will be used.
of 18: Return to the offering dish's puzzle screen and check over the seven offering items to see which ones might symbolize the four types of people Valentina identified.
of 18: The crown is clearly the king's symbol, and the shield is the warrior's symbol. So you won't be using those two.
of 18: Which of the offering items seem to symbolize priests and hunters?
of 18: Priests often carry fancy ornamental staves, and old-time hunters used bows and arrows a lot.
of 18: So the staff-like stick item and the arrowhead item are two that need to go on the offering dish.
of 18: That leaves three offering items (boat, bowl, and fish), two of which are needed for the offering.
of 18: Since you need two out of three items, there are only three possible combos: boat and bowl, boat and fish, or bowl and fish.
of 18: Trying all three of those combos along with the staff and arrowhead, you'll soon find the answer.
of 18: Or you could reason that since the "unpopular" people on the relief (like the king and warrior) are lying down, and the more humble/poor people are standing up, the bowl and fish are the items you need.
