Black Mirror III Hints
How can I solve the gravestone puzzle?
of 16: Start by examining all five gravestones for clues.
of 16: The only thing you can be sure of based on those clues is that the right grave in the front row isn't Samuel's.
of 16: Also, if you take note of the medical symbol on that grave, you'll realize that it must belong to one of the two doctors who are on the list.
of 16: That's not much to go on, so you'll probably want to go ask people for clues instead of just guessing until you get it right.
of 16: To figure out which graves are the two doctors' graves, return to Willow Creek and talk to Dr. Winterbottom in her office.
of 16: Ask her about the building in the woods and then Dr. Heinz Hermann to learn that she admired him.
of 16: Add that to the fact that she has a dreamcatcher hanging near her desk, and you can deduce that the left grave on the front row is Dr. Heinz Hermann's.
of 16: That means the right grave on the front row must be Dr. Robert Gordon's, since he's the only doctor left on the list.
of 16: For clues on the other three graves, reenter the church and ask Father Frederick about Henry Stanton, James, and the two Bible quotations.
of 16: He doesn't know anything about Henry Stanton, so go to the vicarage area behind the church and ask the gravedigger about him.
of 16: Also ask about the rotted flowers that you noticed at one of the anonymous graves.
of 16: Your best clues from all of that are what the gravedigger said about Henry Stanton and the rotted flowers.
of 16: He said Stanton was a real loner, which strongly indicates that his grave is the middle one in the back row (since it's so neglected and extra-pathetic).
of 16: When you asked about the rotted flowers, he said that Lady Victoria and her butler were there just days before the fire.
of 16: That strongly implies that the grave on the right is Samuel's, since it's the one with the rotted flowers next to it. It's less likely that Victoria would leave flowers at James' grave or her disgraced son Robert's.
of 16: So that leaves the left grave in the back row to be James'.
