Blair Witch Volume 1: Rustin Parr Hints
I'm having trouble using the controls. Do you have any advice?
First, it's important to choose the right set of controls. There are four different control methods: gamepad, keyboard only, keyboard and mouse, or point and click. I personally found the keyboard controls too hard -- Doc seemed to turn in large enough steps that I had a tough time getting her over bridges and through doors.
Beyond that, choosing the best controls is a matter of personal tastes. I do think that it's worth using the training session to set the controls to your liking, since the time you spend now can save you a lot of frustration later in the game. If you're used to third-person adventure games, the point-and-click method may work for you. The pathfinding isn't all that great, however, so you have to move Doc in small steps to get through tough spots. If you have a gamepad (I don't), you may want to try that. I personally preferred the keyboard/mouse combination.
However, I also found it easier to remap the keys, so that I could move Doc with my left hand on the left side of the keyboard -- the way that many first-person games set the keys. That is, I set W to go forward, A and D for left and right, X for backward, and Q and E to strafe, and I mapped all the rest of the keys to the left side of the keyboard. I also altered the mouse sensitivity a bit, by turning the X-axis (left/right) sensitivity up and the Y-axis (up/down) sensitivity down quite a bit. Of course, you may have different preferences than mine.
