How do I work the audio recorder?
1 of 5: Start by selecting the tape in your inventory and use it. This will take you to your recorder. (Don't just use the recorder, since doing so will open up your field notes, not the recording.)
2 of 5: You'll need to play with the settings a lot until you can make out what's on the tape.
3 of 5: It helps to try isolating each setting one at a time. Click your mouse on the appropriate knob or lever and drag it left or right to change the settings.
4 of 5: Once you're ready to test out your settings, click and drag the play lever to play the tape forward or in reverse. It doesn't matter which you choose at first, just as long as you pick one for now. Picking the direction is probably the last thing you'll want to do, after you've set everything else.
5 of 5: Aside from that, though, the puzzle is primarily one of trial and error. Just keep changing settings until you can hear something intelligible on the tape.
