The Black Mirror Hints

What are the correct positions for the levers?

  • 1 of 9: If you experiment with them, you'll find that each lever has a total of three possible positions: up, middle, and down. That means that there are only 27 possible configurations, so it shouldn't be too hard to guess the right one if you adopt a methodical approach. (Hit the power button after each time you set the levers to try it.)
  • 2 of 9: There is a clue nearby, though it's not obvious.
  • 3 of 9: Under the power button are three digits. Perhaps they correspond somehow to the correct setting of the three levers.
  • 4 of 9: The digits are 5, 7, and 3. Each of these numbers corresponds to one of the three positions -- up, down, or middle.
  • 5 of 9: The first digit is a 5, implying that the leftmost lever should be in the middle position.
  • 6 of 9: The 7 and 3 indicate that the second and third levers need to be one up and one down, with the order depending on which way is considered to be greater than 5. There's no way to tell, but you're down to two possible configurations now, so it's easy to try them both.
  • 7 of 9: It turns out that you need to have the leftmost lever in the middle position, the middle lever in the down position, and the rightmost lever in the up position.
  • 8 of 9: If you've already turned the nearby valve wheel, setting the levers like this and hitting the power button will turn on the lights (among other things).
  • 9 of 9: NOTE: If the middle-down-up lever configuration doesn't work, try middle-down-down.
