The Black Mirror Hints
General Gameplay Tips
1 of 7: Always press the TAB key to find all the available exits in every location you visit. This is a very nice feature for an adventure game, and makes finding new locations and drawing maps much simpler to do. (Of course, just because you can easily *see* an exit doesn't mean that's it's easy to take. There are locked doors that require keys, etc.)
2 of 7: It appears at first as if each area you can travel to only has one screen associated with it. However, this isn't always the case. For instance, there are three different screens for the manor's lobby area. Which screen you get depends on where you entered the lobby. To move from the lobby, you can use the "staircase," "dining room," and "library" exits.
3 of 7: It is very important to take the time to go slowly over every area with the mouse cursor, scanning for interactive objects (they make the cursor turn red, and usually display a name at the top of the screen). Many interactive objects are just "window dressing," and will become noninteractive after you click on them a few times. Any object that doesn't do this will almost certainly be important at one point or another, and should be subjected to the following routine:
* left-click on it until the description starts repeating * right-click on it to see if that does anything * try using every inventory item you have on it * talk to everyone to see if you can ask anyone about it * if none of that does anything now, note the object down and come back and repeat the process later
4 of 7: It's also important to note that not all interactive items will show up the first time you enter an area. Sometimes you have to do something first, or something has to happen. That means you should occasionally rescan areas you've already searched to see if anything new has come up (especially when you get stuck).
5 of 7: Another feature that Black Mirror has in abundance is the "event driven" style of making progress in the game. There is no real-time clock that determines when certain things happen, so everything that can happen is set to trigger when some certain other event happens. There are several common types of event triggers, which are summarized in the list below. (Note that the examples given are entirely made up, and are *not* actual game hints).
6 of 7: Talk frequently to all the people you can find. They often have new conversation topics later on, after you've discovered something or obtained new items. Asking about things is often the only way to make progress. (See the above info about event triggers.)
7 of 7: It is possible to die in the game, or to get stuck due to using up an item before it's needed. However, these occurrences are very rare, and don't even start until you are well into the game. Get familiar with saving your game frequently (using more than just one slot over and over), in order to get into that very useful habit before it's too late!
