The Black Mirror Hints

The door to the chapel is locked! Where can I get the key?

  • 1 of 18: Before you have any chance of getting the chapel door key, you'll have to explore the abandoned house and help Richard. See The Abandoned House hint section for all the details on that.
  • 2 of 18: Who do you think would have keys to all the doors on the estate?
  • 3 of 18: The caretaker, Louis, would be sure to have a key to the chapel if anyone does. Talk to him about it.
  • 4 of 18: Unfortunately, he's not about to lend it to you or let you into the chapel. Eleanor has strictly forbidden it, and won't make an exception, even for Samuel.
  • 5 of 18: So once again you'll need to play the thief, this time stealing Louis' keys. That's not going to be easy, since he always keeps them on him.
  • 6 of 18: By the time you're through helping Richard, Louis will be mowing the lawn at the path fork.
  • 7 of 18: Notice that his jacket is hanging on a branch of the nearby dead tree. Louis probably left his keys in one of the jacket pockets to make sure he didn't accidentally drop them and run over them with the mower.
  • 8 of 18: Try clicking on the jacket to take the keys.
  • 9 of 18: Samuel is way too timid a thief, afraid that Louis will catch him even if you click on the jacket while Louis has his back turned to it. Maybe if you stand around and wait, Louis will finish mowing the patch of lawn that he's doing and move on to another one.
  • 10 of 18: But he never does! He just keeps going over and over the same little patch of lawn. (What a mow-ron!) And Eleanor won't help out by sending him off to do another chore!
  • 11 of 18: It's up to you to stop the mower.
  • 12 of 18: You're going to have to sabotage his mower somehow.
  • 13 of 18: You'll have to think of a way to stop the lawnmower while Louis is still using it.
  • 14 of 18: Do you have anything small but potentially deadly to mowers that you could toss in Louis' path? Something that he might not see until it's too late?
  • 15 of 18: If not, you didn't search the toolbox thoroughly when you were after the glue.
  • 16 of 18: Search the toolbox near the main gate again to get a firm steel wire, then go use it on the patch of lawn that Louis is mowing on. (It'll be interactive to the cursor, and will be called "lawn.")
  • 17 of 18: If Samuel pulls back at the last instant, saying that Louis would see him, then try again when Louis has his back turned.
  • 18 of 18: Once the trap is set, just wait for the mower to go up in smoke. Louis will wander off to get his mower-fixing tools, and you can finally frisk his jacket to get his keys, including the one that opens the chapel door.
