The Black Mirror Hints
How do I unlock the jewelry box?
1 of 6: The top of its lid has another colored-tile switcheroo puzzle, kind of like the one in the church's belfry in Chapter II.
2 of 6: The arrow in the middle square of the puzzle shows that you need the two white knights on the top row and the two black knights on the bottom row (in the corners). Knight Puzzle Configurations shows the starting and ending configurations (W = white knight and B = black knight).
3 of 6: Be sure to save your game before you start the puzzle, since it can be a lot more challenging than it looks at first, and there's no handy way to reset the puzzle (except by restoring a save).
4 of 6: The knights on this board have the same L-shaped movement pattern as the knights in a game of chess. That means a knight can go forward two squares and then either left or right one square, or it can go forward one square and then either left or right two squares. It doesn't matter if it passes over another piece, but there can't be another piece at its destination. (There are no "captures" in this puzzle.)
5 of 6: A knight has two possible destinations it can get to from whatever square it's on, provided that neither destination currently has another knight on it. Each possible destination has two different L-shaped moves that lead to it. Example Moves shows the two possible destinations for one of the black (B) knights.
6 of 6: Fortunately, the starting board is always the same, so a step-by-step solution is possible. One such solution is presented in Knight Puzzle Solution.
