The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon Hints

Discovery in the Mine

  • 1 of 11: The miners have broken into an old barrow during their diggings and discovered a big chunk of a super-hard ice-like substance called Stalhrim. Carnius reveals that Stalhrim is the real reason behind the whole mining colony being built.
  • 2 of 11: He says there are three Nords living way up north who know about the Stalhrim. He wants you to find them and kill them.
  • 3 of 11: They're all standing around just outside Graring's House (location 40 on the Solstheim Map). They won't talk to you or initiate combat, so just start hacking away at them.
  • 4 of 11: Graring has a powerful Stalhrim mace, so you might want to concentrate on taking him down as fast as you can.
  • 5 of 11: Searching their bodies, you'll find that Graring also has an ancient Nordic pick axe. That's the real prize here.
  • 6 of 11: Report back to Carnius with the special pick axe to learn that it's the only known tool that can break off chunks of Stalhrim for use.
  • 7 of 11: Carnie wants a piece from the barrow that was discovered in the mines, so go down to the lower tunnels in the mines and find the new breakthrough area.
  • 8 of 11: You don't have to have the pick axe readied as a weapon in order to get a Stalhrim chunk -- just have it in your inventory and use the Stalhrim block like you would a treasure chest or ebony deposit to take what's there.
  • 9 of 11: Take the one chunk you can get back to Carnius to get $3,000 and finish the quest.
  • 10 of 11: Also notice that Carnius offers to trade you some Stalhrim armor and weapons if you bring him more chunks. You have to trade him two chunks per item, but there are enough chunks in the game to get one of every type of armor and weapon he can trade for. Just be sure to do all the trading you want to before finishing his quest series. (NOTE: Ice armor is medium armor, and is almost as good as the best, which is the Royal Guard Armor in Mournhold.)
  • 11 of 11: NOTE: Due to most of the remaining quests being geared towards making the colony fail, your EEC stock certificate will start going down in value when you finish the next quest. Now's the time to sell! (It was worth $6,000 at this point when I played.)
