The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon Hints
What are the problems, and how do I deal with them?
1 of 6: First of all, things will probably move veeeery sloooowly as you face out of the window. Even with all the performance enhancement techniques I've learned (and that are in my main Morrowind UHS hint file), it's still very sluggish on my older computer (though my newer one does much better).
2 of 6: Second, trying to fire an arrow out of the window of the guard tower usually ends up with the arrow hitting the tower's window ledge. You'll probably have to jump during the arrow-firing process in order for it to get away from the tower and possibly hit Falco (and jumping tends to mess up your aim). Fortunately, you can shoot the arrow at a spot a ways above Falco's head and still have a very good chance of hitting him.
3 of 6: It's very important to note that you *have* to hit and kill Falco with the special poisoned arrow that was left on the table for you. You need to save your game before firing the one poisoned arrow you have, and then restore and try again if you miss.
4 of 6: One of the biggest problems is that even though Baslod is supposed to run away and draw the guards with him, he very often gets stuck right next to Falco, making it impossible to hit Falco with the poison arrow without also hurting the guards (which gets you reported for a crime and fired from the EEC). This is especially common if you hired all three guys to be guards in the previous quest. One way to try to get them to run off is to run out of the tower right after giving the signal and then approach the group, but that doesn't always work.
5 of 6: Fortunately, you will be counted as having succeeded in the mission as long as Falco is killed by the poisoned arrow, no matter what else happens. That means that you don't actually *have* to shoot him from up in the tower -- you could get a lot closer, thereby making it much easier to hit him. Also, if the guards get caught in the arrow's blast radius, you'll have to get your bounty removed somehow plus give Carnius two pieces of Stalhrim in order to get rehired, but you can still report success on the mission.
6 of 6: If none of that works for you, then the only way to finish this quest successfully is to use a console cheat (for the PC only). Any time before you get a journal entry telling you that you've failed, you can press ~ to bring down the console and type:
journal co_12a 40 This will put the "I have killed Falco" entry into your journal, which is what's checked when you report back to Carnius. This won't work if you already have an entry about failing the mission, so be sure to do this before that happens (preferably without even giving the signal and starting the whole mess).
