Action: How do I do things?
When you move close to something you can interact with, it will be highlighted with a white asterisk. If you are close to two such objects, there will be two asterisks. One will be brightly highlighted; the other will be less bright. The brightly highlighted one is the one you can currently interact with. If you wish to interact with the other one, use the "Page Up" and "Page Down" keys to switch between them.
Watch the four action buttons in the lower-right corner for which actions are currently possible. The action buttons are related to the four keys "WASD". The icons in the lower right corner give you picture clues as to what each button will do. The following is a list of some possibilities.
W = climb up, jump
A = do something with object -- open clasp, use inventory item with
S = take/hold object -- "use" object + fist
D = look at object (with sparking highlight)
