Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon Hints

How do I get George across the floor of tiles?

  • 1 of 14: The answer, obviously, is in the symbols on the various tiles.
  • 2 of 14: Note how, when George steps on one of the symbol tiles along the entrance, other tiles across the room light up.
  • 3 of 14: It turns out that the tiles that are safe to walk on are the ones that are lit up.
  • 4 of 14: But not all the tiles are lit up at once.
  • 5 of 14: So it would seem that the only way across is to move George partly across the floor on "safe" tiles, and then change which tiles are "safe" (by standing on one of the symbol pressure plates) to change the lighted tiles appropriately.
  • 6 of 14: But George can't do that by himself.  This is going to need a two-person solution.
  • 7 of 14: Have George talk to Nico (using the Nico pictured in the inventory menu), and ask her to stand on a specific tile.
  • 8 of 14: Notice that there are also occasional blank tiles throughout the room that are always lit up.
  • 9 of 14: Walk George out on "safe" tiles, and then, while George is standing on a blank tile, select a different tile for Nico to move to.
  • 10 of 14: The path won't necessarily be a straight line directly across the room.  You may need to double-back a little to make your way across the room.
  • 11 of 14: Watch for impossible-to-use tiles -- that is, tiles that have a symbol on them for which Nico has no matching symbol.  These can never be lit up, and are dead-ends for George.
  • 12 of 14: If you reach a dead-end, you can always back up a little by reversing the path that you had just used to get to your current position.
  • 13 of 14: Eventually, a little trial and error should get you across the floor.  There is no "point of no return", such that George has no options at all.  Consider this room simply another form of a maze, where interaction with Nico is required to make certain "passages" accessible.  WARNING: full solution follows.
  • 14 of 14: The following is a complete list of the animals that George should be asking Nico to stand on.  All of these have only one choice for movement, with the exception of the second snake.  At the second snake, George will be faced with three possible paths.  The correct path leads him back in the direction he started from (to the left of the screen).
