Secrets of the Ark: A Broken Sword Game Hints

How can I leave this room? All the doors are closed!

  • 1 of 19: Look around for other interactive items.
  • 2 of 19: The pedestal that the statue was on is now interactive.
  • 3 of 19: When you click on it, you'll have the option (via arrows at the bottom of the screen) to turn it left, turn it right, or push it down.
  • 4 of 19: Apparently, there's some special sequence of moves here that will open one or more of the room's doors.
  • 5 of 19: For a clue, return to the good old manuscript page.
  • 6 of 19: Check its fourth Latin passage.
  • 7 of 19: It gives some directions that you might be able to use with the pedestal.
  • 8 of 19: Note that there's a small arrow engraved on the pedestal that indicates direction.
  • 9 of 19: The clues say to first turn from Holy Sion to the fortress in the east.
  • 10 of 19: If we assume the arrow starts out pointing north to Holy Sion, then we clearly need to rotate the pedestal right once so that its arrow is pointing east.
  • 11 of 19: Do that, then click on the down arrow to "set" that position.
  • 12 of 19: Here's where the clues appear to break down. The next ones say to turn the thing west and then south, but if you do that, it won't work -- not even if you remember to hit the down arrow after each setting.
  • 13 of 19: What happened is that after you turned the pedestal to face the fortress in the east, that facing became your new north.
  • 14 of 19: So west is then one rotation to the left, and south is another left rotation past that.
  • 15 of 19: Another way to figure it is to use the PDA to find out what city each line of the clue refers to.
  • 16 of 19: Reading in the Constantinople section of the historical database notes, you'll find that Constantinople was the great fortress of the east, Rome was the seat of the holy church in the west, and Alexandria was the learned Coptic city to the south.
  • 17 of 19: So turn the pedestal to get its arrow to face each of those three cities on the map in turn, pressing the down arrow after each facing.
  • 18 of 19: However you figure it, these are the exact moves you need to make from the starting configuration: rotate right, press down, rotate left, press down, rotate left, press down.
  • 19 of 19: That'll open up one of the doors, and you and Anna Maria can leave.
