The Cameron Files: Pharaoh's Curse Hints

How do I decode the message?

  • 1 of 26: Decoding the message is not necessary to play the game, but is included just for interest's sake.
  • 2 of 26: You have already encountered a clue to the solution.
  • 3 of 26: The clue was originally located in the Museum in Cairo...
  • 4 of 26: ...but it's not there any more...
  • 5 of 26: ...you brought it with you.
  • 6 of 26: Look in the wallet in your inventory.
  • 7 of 26: The paper with the clue is the one you found inside the crate in the Museum basement.
  • 8 of 26: The paper reads "Logical continuation of figures.  The letters in their place."
  • 9 of 26: The clue is actually telling you two things.
  • 10 of 26: The letters already in the message should stay the same.
  • 11 of 26: And the numbers should be changed to letters in a logical fashion.
  • 12 of 26: Once you are able to figure out one substitution, that number and letter combination will remain the same for the remainder of the message.  For example, if the letter X was represented by the number 26, then *anywhere* you would see the number 26 in the message, you would know that it was actually an X.
  • 13 of 26: So, if you figure out one word, check the remainder of the message for other words that share the same numbers.  In this way, you can start to reveal other letters in words you haven't figured out yet.
  • 14 of 26: Focus on short words, with only a letter or two missing to help you get started.
  • 15 of 26: The easiest word to figure out is "T-H-3".
  • 16 of 26: What is the most common word in the English language that would fit there by substituting a letter for the "3"?
  • 17 of 26: The letter E is represented by the number 3.  Look for all the "3"s, and replace each of them with the letter E.
  • 18 of 26: Note that one word you have completed, when replacing all the "3"s with "E"s, is "HE".  If you look at the word just before "HE", you'll see it is "5-F"
  • 19 of 26: Only two letters could be represented by the "5", either "I" or "O".
  • 20 of 26: Taken in context of the message, it doesn't make any sense to say "OF HE".
  • 21 of 26: You can now replace all the "5"s with the letter "I".
  • 22 of 26: Look at the message, just before the word "THE", and you'll see "8-F".
  • 23 of 26: The only two options for the number "8" are "I" and "O".
  • 24 of 26: And the "I" has already been used.  You can now replace all the number "8"s with the letter "O".
  • 25 of 26: Continue replacing numbers with letters, and decipher the words one at a time.
  • 26 of 26: Look below for the solution, one letter at a time -- in order of the easiest to hardest ones to decipher.  Look to the final hint for the final solution to the entire code.
