Civilization II Hints

Win Before you Start?! It's Possible! Here's How...

  • "Here is a Civilization II cheat, developed by my friend and Civ II fanatic Timothy Hain, on how to conquer the world in 4000 BC.

    1. Go to the Map Editor.
    2. Creat a small landmass in a glacier (it shouldn't matter what type of
landmass, but this is what Timothy used).
    3. Place all but one of the tribes on this landmass. Though it should make
no difference, deter from placing them on Ivory or Oil squares.
    4. Place the final tribe well away from the 20 others. If you wish, create
a giant continent completely out of "whatever". This will be where you
    place your tribe.
    5. Change the brushsize, if you have not already done so, to a 5x5.
    6. Click on the ocean square in the Toolbar.
    7. Create ocen under rival cities, leaving your "Utopia" untouched.
    8. Save the map, and exit.
    9. Go into CivII.
    10. Select your premade world.
    11. DON'T randomize the starting positions!
    12. Choose your tribe as the one you didn't sink.
    13. If you choose to create your ideal continent, play out the 1st turn as
    your normally would.
    14. You should see the guillotine.
    15. You are now free to play on a contient without enemies, except some Barbarians.

That's all there is to it! I can't take the credit; I give it all to Timothy Hain! If you have any problems, feel free to E-Mail Tim at:

Author's note: I tried this and the map editor told me that my map cannot be created because I can't put cities on water. But then again I was working from memory so maybe I did something wrong...
