Civilization II Hints

City Walls

  • Always build city walls!  Every city, every game.  You may be able to put it off for a little while at the beginning of the game to work on more immediate concerns, but don't put them off too long.  On the war front, put up city walls as soon as you have a defensive unit there; don't even wait to build them, buy them as soon as you at least one shield toward them (otherwise the cost will be doubled). City walls are more than worth the resources you spend to build them considering how valuable the things are that they protect: your units, your city, your technology, your future.  They are the only improvement which cost NOTHING to keep up. They never expire and work against all ground unit for all time but one.  You can't go wrong building city walls, but you can go wrong by not building them.
