1 of 7: You can't avoid them entirely. They're going to show up and attack no matter what you do.
2 of 7: However, you can avoid an instant "GAME OVER!" scenario if Nick has something in his inventory that he can use to defend himself.
3 of 7: This is no action game, so don't expect to be able to find a gun or knife.
