The Crystal Key Hints

General Performance Problems

  • If you have version 1.0 of The Crystal Key, I would strongly suggest that you download and install all available patches from The Adventure Company's Technical Support page.

    The game plays much better on faster Pentium II and above machines, although a simple Pentium is listed as minimum. In addition, you may have to "tweak" your settings if you have problems with performance and graphics.  The below are some suggestions that may help.

    1. Disable background programs, including Screensaver, Anti-Virus protection and Scheduled Tasks
    2. Run ScanDisk and Defragment your drive
    3. Always play the game with a fresh boot of Windows
    4. Reduce Graphics Acceleration.  (Control Panel -- System -- Performance Button -- Graphics)  Slide the bar down a notch or two and try the game.  If it still doesn't work, repeat as often as needed.
