Shortcutting

• These upgrades all have to do with taking shortcuts and getting to optional areas that you couldn't otherwise reach. They're frequently handy for helping you sneak past enemies unseen and getting to secret areas that yield extra XP and loot. The most often-useful ones are the Cloaking System's upgrades and "Move/Throw Heavy Objects," with "Jump Enhancement," "Punch Through Wall," and the Icarus Landing System being of lesser (though still significant) value.
  
  * Implanted Rebreather (Torso): Chemical Resistance => Makes you immune to poison gas.
  
  * Cybernetic Arm Prosthesis (Arm): Move/Throw Heavy Objects => Lets you pick up and carry or throw heavier objects, such as large movable crates and vending machines. Such items are often set in front of secret passages, and can be used to block passageways or set up "jumping stones" to let you jump up to higher areas. You can also kill enemies at short range by throwing a heavy object at them.
  * Cybernetic Arm Prosthesis (Arm): Punch Through Wall => Lets you punch your way through weakened wall sections. When you're near such a section, it'll be outlined so you can easily spot it. (Note that you can shoot out weakened wall sections, but doing so takes a lot of ammo, and often draws unwanted attention.)
  
  * Icarus Landing System (Back): Descent Velocity Modulator => This lets you fall from any height without taking any damage. You can fall into some otherwise inaccessible side areas, and can occasionally use it to shortcut your way past enemies or drop down behind them. Also, if you hold down the "Fire Weapon" button while falling, you can briefly stun nearby enemies when you land.
  
  * Cloaking System (Skin): Base Longevity => When activated, it gives you 3 seconds of invisibility (not inaudibility, note) per energy cell. This can be used to sneak straight through areas where you would otherwise be seen, thereby greatly shortcutting many stealthy maneuvers.
  * Cloaking System (Skin): Longevity Upgrade 1, 2 => Increases your invisibility duration to 5, 7 seconds per energy cell.
  
  * Cybernetic Leg Prosthesis (Leg): Jump Enhancement => This lets you jump much higher than normal, though note that you have to lean on the "Jump" key rather than just tap it to get the full effect.
  * Cybernetic Leg Prosthesis (Leg): Run Silently => This makes running past enemies or security devices without being detected a bit easier.
  * Cybernetic Leg Prosthesis (Leg): Sprint Silently => This makes sprinting past enemies or security devices without being detected a bit easier.
  * Cybernetic Leg Prosthesis (Leg): Jump/Land Silently => This makes jumping or falling near enemies without being detected a bit easier.
