Deus Ex: Human Revolution Hints
Defeat Barrett.
of 10: This combat can be a real kick in the face for any character who's been focusing on stealth and only getting non-combat augmentations. You're trapped in the room with Barrett, who has vast amounts of health, a powerful gatling gun, and frag grenades. Also, when he gets close to you, he can pick you up and punch you hard.
of 10: If you have any unspent Praxis points, you'll want to spend them now to buy as much damage reduction as you can for the Dermal Armor skin augmentation. You may also want to buy the Typhoon Explosive System augmentation if you have some ammo for it.
of 10: Hopefully, you brought along a weapon that you've been customizing with weapon upgrades, some EMP or frag grenades, and a hypostim or two. Start by tossing a grenade at Barrett, then use a hypostim and start blasting him with your weapon.
of 10: Or if you brought a rocket launcher, fire a rocket at his feet (to be sure you don't miss him), then dodge around while waiting for another rocket to load. If you brought enough rockets, you can finish him off that way. If not, you'll at least have gotten a real good start.
of 10: If you don't have any combat-worthy weapons, the first thing you'll need to do is run frantically around and look for some.
of 10: There are several explosive red canisters in the area that you can pick up and throw at Barrett to deal him some damage, but it can be hard to grab a canister and throw it at him without his gun or grenades detonating it first.
of 10: You might occasionally be able to hide from him in the NE or SW side rooms long enough to regenerate your health.
of 10: In between the weapon cabinet and box stacks in the SW side room is a particularly good spot, especially if the weapon cabinet is open -- but you're doomed if he gets a grenade back there with you (though he will find it very difficult to do so).
of 10: You might want to try sprinting for that spot as soon as the combat begins, then hide there and wait for Barrett to come to where you can stand up and hit him with a quick shot or two before crouching back down again. That'll make the combat take a long time, but he probably won't be able to hit you with anything it you're careful. (Note that there's a poison gas canister nearby that you might want to pick up and throw out of the side room sometime when Barrett isn't within sight.)
of 10: You can't quicksave during the combat, but you can make regular saves. Make one after you get into the hiding spot and wait a bit to make sure Barrett isn't going to grenade you there, then overwrite it after every few successful attacks you make on him without getting killed. That'll help you get through this without having to retry over and over.
