Diablo and Hellfire Hints

Archbishop Lazarus

  • You should find Lazarus' staff in a rack on level 15.  If you bring it to Cain, he will tell you about it as usual.  It will then disappear, and a red portal will pop up on level 15 near the pentagram.  When you are done with level 15, enter the red portal to go to Lazarus' level. 

    As you enter the level, there are two sets of Hell Spawn in barred rooms.  Use a range weapon to kill them all.  Work around to the back of the level, and kill the mages you find.  After everything you find is dead, stand on one of the two circles with books, and read the book.  You will teleport to the barred room, and a new room will open, with yet more Hell Spawn.  Kill them all.

    Repeat this process for the other circle with a book.  You can now make sure you are all charged up, because you are going to see Lazarus soon.  Visit the town now if you need to get anything.  Go back into the hallway you entered the level from, and walk onto the circle at the end.  You will get a nice movie sequence and will be placed in the center of the level with Lazarus.  As he is chatting away at you, start walking to the left.  If you can use mana shield, get it going while he is talking.  You are going to want to leave this room soon.

    After you make it out of the room, you can kill the Hell Spawn that follow you out, one at a time.  When they stop coming out, you can go back in for Lazarus himself.  After you kill Lazarus, you can go back to the entry way to make your exit.  You will pick up a number of nice magic items as a result of this battle, so be sure to search the ground carefully before leaving.
