Diablo and Hellfire Hints

Economy

  • Diablo doesn't look like an economics lesson -- it looks like a hack and slash fest.  However, you'll do a lot better in this game if you pay attention to getting and keeping gold.  In town, they will charge you more than they will pay you for the same item.  So, never sell an item that you think you will use later.  The towns folk are all very honest, so it is quite all right to just pile your stuff in the square in a single player game.  In a multi-player game, you can hide things behind a building, but they might be found by a crafty player, so watch out.

A staff is a cheap way to cast a spell, if you are a magic user or not.  Refills on a staff are a lot cheaper than the same number of scrolls.  If you can cast a spell by any means, sell the scrolls you find of that type, and cast the spell instead.  Any time you plan to go to town, let your health go down (but not too far!) and recharge at Pepin's house.

Later in the game, you will be able to exchange all the gold you build up for either great equipment, more spells, or higher character abilities.  Elixirs cost 5,000 gold each, so start saving now!
