Diablo and Hellfire Hints
The Skeleton King
The Skeleton King, who is what's left of King Leoric, guards a group of rooms with a small army of skeletons. Go down the stairway to the first room, and you will see there are two side rooms. Kill the skeletons standing around before you pull the two levers in the side rooms. The right side room has a secret room that will open. Inside, you will find some good magical items.
Get all this cleaned up before going forward to the main room. Once the King sees you, he will come right toward you. He has a tremendous sword, and it does terrible damage in hand-to-hand combat. So try to use a range weapon on him (Holy Bolt works well on him, of course). If you prefer fighting, use a big club and bring a lot of healing potions.
After you've killed him, finish cleaning up the room. When you've hit all four of the crucified skeletons, a side passage will open up. There is also another room with yet more skeletons. There are many nice magical items to be had here, including the Skeleton King's Undead Crown, which steals life from the enemies you kill. It is a very nice item to have for a fighter. You can watch your health improve as you fight mobs of the easier enemies.
