Diablo II Hints
Mephisto
1 of 7: Mephisto is found at the bottom of the Durance of Hate.
2 of 7: Mephisto, in my opinion, was the easiest boss to beat. He casts various spells in your direction and every once in a while will try to hit you.
3 of 7: Work your way into his lair very slowly, and kill everything that you find by leading it back out to the hallway. Clean out both sides, because you will not want any distractions when you get to Mephisto himself. After you take care of the majority of (or even all of) the Night Lords, it's time for the elder of the Three, Mephisto.
4 of 7: The best part of the lair for fighting Mephisto himself is the laval trenches. When you go back into the lair to where Mephisto is hiding, quickly run to the side and around one of the lava trenches. Mephisto cannot cross, so he can only use ranged attacks on you.
5 of 7: Walk slowly away from him, and you will find a distance where he cannot see you, but you can still see his toes at least. Set up camp there, and start using any ranged weapon you have. Just use it over and over, and you will wear him down. Portal out and come right back if you run out of ammo or mana. Done this way, Mephisto is easily dispatched.
6 of 7: If you can't do that, just stock up on health potions and sit there and hit him with your most powerful spell/attack. Heal as needed -- as long as you're not using a sash for a belt, then you should only have to pop back to town once or twice at the most for a restock on potions.
7 of 7: Either way, eventually Mephisto will fall under the weight of your attacks and it will be off to the final act.
